Patient feedback
Informed, cared for,
and heard
Patient feedback is critical in driving up standards of care and keeping these standards at a high and consistent level.
Why it matters
Recovery cannot always be directly observed by the surgical team.
Surgery continues to change — the way in which it is delivered. Hospital stays have continued to reduce, and recovery cannot always be directly observed by the surgical team. To the surgeon, collecting feedback is essential: it is important to ensure safe and effective care, and beyond that to understand about recovery and the impact surgery has on your patient's life.
It supports professional development — how outcomes evolve with time and experience, the need to tailor and personalise care, and when and why complications might arise. It can guide where and when improvements can and should be made, and enable the consolidation of surgical care that performs strongly.
From a patient perspective, it's very understandable to have questions about their surgeon's professional background and outcomes, and this needs to continue to be championed. This was a conversation I had recently — that there remains no single source that can detail a consultant's whole performance. There's a range of places to look when trying to build the full picture: to check regarding registration, to view specialty specific outcomes or hospital data, and how this all then builds the more complete picture. Indeed, it is also not always easy to clearly interpret when it is found.
Patient feedback scores clearly have a role here, with it fundamentally important that patients are informed, they feel cared for and they feel heard.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been assigned this totally inspiring and caring surgeon
Mr Gooseman was amazing. I am, at this moment, cancer free, thanks to his care and treatment. I cannot thank him enough!
Completely 100 per cent confident in him in all areas.
I would like to say how amazing my lung doctor was. He took the time to listen, explained everything clearly, and made me feel completely at ease. His kindness, professionalism, and reassurance made a huge difference, and I felt genuinely cared for throughout my appointment. I'm very grateful for the excellent care I received
Mr Gooseman was a complete professional and I felt completely safe and at ease in his care. I believe he went above and beyond in my aftercare checking in to make sure I was ok, he explained exactly what was going on and things to look for etc and for that I am very grateful and totally trust and respect him.
1st class service, caring, regular check ups and updates
I found Mr Gooseman very polite and processional with a good put you at ease manner. When I was asked if there were any questions, my questions were taken seriously and answered in a way I could understand, this combined with his caring nature makes this gentleman a credit to the NHS.
Im very happy with the result and follow up
